R. L’Heureux Lewis, also known as Dumi Eyi di yiye, is a young scholar with a fresh take on issues facing African-Americans and the African Diaspora. With specializations in race and ethnic relations, he concentrates his research and activism in areas such as education, youth culture, public policy, and mental health. His research has been featured in scholarly journals and edited volumes.
His most recent educational research concentrates on educational inequality in American public schools. He is currently completing his book manuscript entitled, Inequality in the Promised Land, which explores on the experiences of low income and racial minorities’ attempts at accessing school-related resources. Using original data he tackles the subtle and explicit ways that race and social class can affect the schooling opportunities of youth and their families in the Post-Civil Rights Era.
In the area of mental health his work explores the roles of race and gender. His work on mental health and youth explores the ways the complex interplay of racial identity, discrimination, and school completion. His work on adults and mental health explores identity negotiation across social contexts and the cultural and social contexts surrounding traditional psychological illness.
